Page 1 of 2 Advanced D-Star Capabilities and Security Considerations This will explain about the more advanced features in D-Star radios; Digital Squelch, Callsign Squelch, EMR mode and other Security considerations pertaining to the DD Mode when using these settings. The D-Star radios being a digital mode that is difficult to obtain outside Amateur Radio channels makes them comply with several HIPPA requirements, which is why they are so useful in an ARES, Red Cross function. Using some of the more advanced modes will allow even more security features apparant when in the DD mode, since you can control what radios you get your data from. Now do not confuse this will encryption which is not allowed, at least in the United States, on Amateur Bands. Also don't expect this to be a full proof method of keep criminals from getting information that they badly want. D-Star has simply made it even more effective at only getting the information that YOU are interested in and care about.
